Abstract: The last century developments of physics and technology are challenging the International System of units. Therefore, metrologists are considering to redefine it by assigning conventional values to a set of fundamental constants; this will be the greatest change after the introduction of the metric system. All the units are under scrutiny, but the kilogram and the Avogadro and Planck constants are in the spotlight.
