Energiewende meets Energy Union: Towards integration and sustainability
The meeting "Energiewende meets Energy Union: Towards integration and sustainability", organized by Euro-Case, will be held at the Representation of the Free State of Bavaria to the EU in Brussels
on 2 July 2015 at noon.
The first part of the event will be dedicated to presenting two position papers:
- Prof. Christoph Schmidt, President of the Rheinisch-Westfälisch Institute for Economic Research (RWI), Essen, Germany, and Head of the ESYS Working Group “Economics“ will present first results of the ESYS position paper “Incorporating the German Energiewende into a comprehensive European approach. New options for a common energy and climate policy”.
- Prof. Ottmar Edenhofer, Co-Chair of Working Group III of the IPCC, Director of MCC, Deputy Director and Chief Economist of PIK and Co-Chair of Euro-CASE Energy Platform, will give a talk on “Mitigation of Climate Change: A global perspective on European Energy and Climate Policies” which also includes the presentation of the Euro-CASE position paper „Reform Options for the European Emissions Trading System (EU ETS)“.
- Carlos Moedas, EU Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation, is invited give the key note address.
The panel discussion during the second part of the event – featuring among others Peter Lund, EASAC, - will focus on discussing the two position papers against the background of the newly launched framework for an Energy Union.
