A truly international journal
Owned by a partnership of 17 European physical societies, EPL is published under the scientific responsibility of the European Physical Society by EDP Sciences, IOP Publishing and Società Italiana di Fisica. We have brought together our expertise to create a high-quality journal for the international scientific community.
Exploring the frontiers of physics
Our vision is for EPL to become a leading home for global physics letters, to offer rapid publication of ground-breaking physics results from the international community, and to provide the broadest coverage of physics research.

| Fri Dec 12 09:11:28 CET 2008 | Open Access Opportunity for Authors of Experimental and Theoretical HEP ArticlesEPL is delighted to offer open access free of charge to all authors submitting experimental and theoretical letters in PACS codes 10 and 20. This offer will remain open until the SCOAP3 agreement at CERN takes effect. Authors submitting any article to EPL will continue to be offered the opportunity to make their published letter open access for a one-off payment. However, with effect from 1 November 2008, any author who submits work related to subject areas within PACS 10 and 20 will benefit from open access at no charge, meaning their published article will be available free to all readers, forever. Physics of Elementary Particles and Fields and Nuclear Physics are two research areas focussing on the HEP community, that the EPLA Directors recognise as significant to the broadband development of EPL, and they endeavour to increase the number of high quality research letters published in these fields, to engage more closely with the High Energy Physics community, and to strengthen and promote the journal. All submitted articles will still be subject to rigorous peer review to maintain the high standard of articles published in EPL, and will benefit from expert leadership within the Editorial Board and rapid publication in addition to open access. You are invited to submit your paper now to take advantage of this fantastic offer. |
| Fri Nov 7 10:52:17 CET 2008 | New Appointment for EPL Advisory Board memberWe are delighted to announce that on 1 March 2009 EPL Advisory Board member Professor Helmut Dosch will become the new Chair of the Directorate of the Research Centre DESY, one of the world's leading centres for the investigation of the structure of matter. DESY develops runs and uses accelerators and detectors for photon science and particle physics, and will continue to play a leading role in the international top league of large-scale research. Professor Dosch has had longstanding experience of research with large-scale facilities. He serves on several international committees and research organisations. He counselled the DESY Directorate as a member of the DESY Scientific Council, and, as member of the German Council of Science and Humanities, he evaluated the TESLA/XFEL project which later developed into the European X-ray laser project XFEL and the International Linear Collider ILC. Currently he is Vice-Chair of the Administrative Council of the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility ESRF in Grenoble. The EPL team extend their congratulations to Professor Dosch, and wish him a successful period of Directorship. |

| Wed Oct 17 11:54:43 CEST 2007 | Nobel Prize winners' research in EPLFollowing the announcement that the 2007 Nobel Prize for Physics has been awarded to Albert Fert and Peter Grünberg, and that the 2007 Nobel Prize for Chemistry has been awarded to Gerhard Ertl, we are delighted to extend our congratulations to these researchers, all of whom have all published a number of papers in EPL during the last 17 years. A number of their papers discuss the various aspects of the work for which these outstanding scientists have been duly honoured by the awards, and to celebrate their success, these papers are free to read until the end of December 2007. |
| Wed Jul 04 10:20:29 CEST 2007 | EPL Archive freely available in 2007Società Italiana di Fisica and its partners European Physical Society, EDP Sciences and IOP Publishing are delighted to announce that the contents of the entire EPL archive are now available to read on the journal's website. The EPL archive is a thought-provoking body of work, representing over 20 years of developments throughout the whole of physics. To celebrate this new development, the entire archive has been made freely available to read until 31st December 2007. View the content of the EPL archive at http://www.epljournal.org |
| Fri Jul 27 12:21:12 CEST 2007 | What is coming next in physics?Forecasting the evolution of physics is no easy task, even for leaders in the field. On 10 May 2007, members of the international physics community met in Paris to celebrate current achievements in physics, to identify emerging trends within physics and to try to imagine what physics will look like in twenty years' time. Delegates at 'Physics in our times: how will it evolve and what are the major remaining challenges?' were treated to lively presentations from Daniel Esteve (European Research Council Vice President), Denis Jérome (Editor-in-Chief of EPL 2004-2007) and Volker Dose (Editor-in-Chief of EPL from 2007). The symposium also brought together some leaders in physics: Professor Serge Haroche (Ecole Normale Supérieure and Collège de France), Professor Dieter Vollhardt (Universität Augsburg), Professor Jacques Prost (Ecole Normale Supérieure de Physique et de Chimie Industrielles) and Professor Alvaro de Rújula (CERN), to discuss the progress of research in their field and put forward ideas for future developments in their disciplines. |
| Wed Jul 04 10:16:09 CEST 2007 | New Editor-in-Chief for Europhysics Letters (EPL)Professor Volker Dose, an active member of the physics community for 40 years, has been appointed Editor-in-Chief of Europhysics Letters (EPL). |
