Annual National Congress
The Annual National Congress which gathers about 600 Italian physicists for a whole week, represents the meeting point of our scientific community. In spite of the various cultural and scientific facets of contemporary physics, the world of Italian researchers and physicists finds here its common background.
The Congress is composed of Plenary Sessions and 8 Parallel Sessions, devoted to:
- Nuclear and subnuclear physics
- Condensed matter, atoms, molecules and plasma physics
- Astrophysics and cosmic physics
- Geophysics and physics of the environment
- Biophysics and medical physics
- Electronics and applied physics
- Physics for cultural heritage
- General physics, physics education and history of physics
Every year the Congress takes place in a different location.
During the inaugural ceremony awards are given to particularly deserving young graduates in physics, while during the concluding ceremony the two best Communications for each session are awarded on the basis of their content and exposition.
Another award is also granted to researchers who have devoted their activities to the history of physics and teaching.
Last but not least, an important award is devoted to the memory of Enrico Fermi and called after his name. The Enrico Fermi award is given to a member of the Society who has particularly honoured Italian Physics with his researches.
